Happy 7th Birthday, Limux!

It's that time again! Light  another candle on the penguin cake!

On May 28, 2003, the City of Munich voted to convert all of their computer workstations to Linux. Happy Birthday to the Limux project, and congratulations on accomplishing almost one-fifth of the task in only seven short years!

That's quite good, isn't it? I mean, a mere 35 years and they'll have completed their goals. I'm almost 38 and I haven't completed one third of mine.

Munich was designed to be a slow upgrade originally without a global financial crisis, I dare say that having the odd gfc here and there places some extra restrictions on the process ... just like every other IT group in the world the last 2 years or so(I believe that USA still runs on Win2K/XP).This long tailed exit would allow you to maximize the value of your most recently acquired hardware.... waste not want not. I also wonder if Munich has been having a look at all the new Google bits and how to tie those into the system... it is all very interesting. Cheers to the Munich IT guys!

By the time they're finished, the world has colonies in Mars. Munich would then upgrade to the latest space age Windows due to equipment obsolescence.

Why do you focus exclusively on this one project? Governments have super fail projects all the time but you just want to pick at this one. Is it because it's linux? Has the illegal monopoly hired you to trumpet to the world what a failure linux is supposed to be to boost failing sails of their inferior product winders?

So, finally the support for windows 2000 ends 7/13/2010. 80% of all workstations are still running windows 2000. Without limux being ready and no windows updates, munich has paid like 14 billion Euro for a vision and remain with most of their workstations running outdated, insecure software.

His bosses realized the blog did more harm than good so they shut it down. Floschi has a new blog, and he's still "working" on Limux ;-)
